Commercial Cultivation: Large Scale Blumat SystemsUpdated 2 months ago

Why Commercial Grows Choose Blumat

Sustainable Village designs and supports commercial irrigation systems for licensed cannabis cultivation facilities, greenhouses, and large-scale growing operations worldwide. Commercial grows that switch to Blumat consistently report the same outcomes:

  • 20%+ yield increases from more consistent moisture and healthier root zones
  • Up to 50% reduction in nutrient costs — Blumat delivers water slowly and precisely, so nutrients stay in the root zone instead of flushing through
  • Up to 25% reduction in A/C costs — less transpiration stress, more stable environment
  • Dramatic labor reduction — cultivation teams go from hours of daily hand watering to brief system checks
  • Fewer pests and disease — consistent moisture means fewer stress events that invite problems

What a Commercial System Looks Like

Commercial Blumat systems are scaled Tropf systems — the same sensor technology, just deployed across hundreds of containers or beds with proper infrastructure behind them.

Water Source

Most commercial facilities use one of two approaches:

  • System-wide adjustable pressure reducer (5–15 PSI) — connects to a municipal line or large storage tank with sufficient head height. Handles up to ~300 sensors, up to 7 GPM flow rate. Most common for mid-to-large facilities.
  • Pump kit — for facilities running from ground-level reservoirs. Includes pump, pressure accumulator tank, pressure switch, and pressure reducer. Mini pump kit handles up to 50 gallons/day; large pump kit handles up to 300 gallons/day. Custom pump configurations available for higher-volume needs.

Trunk Line Infrastructure

Large systems use ½-inch trunk lines running from the pressure source along the head of each row or room, with reducing tees splitting into 8mm zone lines per row. This keeps pressure balanced across all zones and allows each zone to be isolated for maintenance.

Distribution

Commercial grows typically use one of three setups depending on container size and cultivation style:

  • BluSoak 3.0 in large containers and raised beds (requires 12–15 PSI)
  • Drip rings (10") for 10–20 gallon pots in flower rooms
  • AquaMat capillary mats for propagation, veg, and small containers
  • Combinations of the above across different rooms and stages

Nutrient Delivery

Most commercial facilities pair Blumat systems with a Dosatron fertilizer injector inline — delivering consistent nutrient concentration at every sensor without manual mixing. Only fully soluble, particle-free inputs should be run through the system.

Moisture Monitoring

The Blumat Digital Moisture Meter is essential at commercial scale — for initial system calibration, ongoing QA across zones, and troubleshooting. Multiple meters are typically deployed across rooms to maintain consistent readings at target moisture levels (usually 50–100 mbar depending on crop and stage).

System Design & Support

Sustainable Village's team has deep hands-on experience in licensed cannabis facilities — indoors and outdoors, across a wide range of cultivation styles and scales. We design systems around your specific facility layout, container sizes, water source, and production goals — not a generic template.

What Cultivation Teams Are Saying

"Getting Blumat dialed in across a double-tier facility changed everything for us. We're now seeing repeatable moisture across thousands of square feet, with healthier biology, stronger roots, less labor, bigger canopies, heavier yields, and way less time spent chasing drybacks."
— Flora & Flame, Oakland, CA

"Blumats have changed our farm's daily life drastically. It's taken 6-hour hand watering daily to 30-minute quick teas twice a week."
— Zen Cowboy Cultivators, Soper, OK
